As a laboratory grows so does its need to manage its samples, inventory, equipment and test results. The process can become daunting with all the time spent on admin – especially with large-scale projects.
This is why ASIS Scientific is proud to collaborate with OnQ Software and represent their cutting edge QLIMS system – a LIMS system created by scientists, for scientists.
LIMS are streamlined to help labs and companies save time on managing samples, keeping an eye on quality control, maintaining important equipment, and easily printing out reports to a client’s specific needs.
OnQ Software specialises to provide a catered LIMS system suited for specific laboratory requirements – whether for research, testing, or production. OnQ’s attentive support staff will listen to and understand the exact requirements a client needs and then help maintain their ever-growing database with constant updates and frequent reviews.
Several key features of LIMS include:

We worked with one of the OnQ team for about a week. They sat down, showed us what they had, considered what we wanted them married them up. Then it was a simple case of going to our leadership team and saying we were going to use it. The benefts just stacked up.
The move to QLIMS was pretty quick. We had 2 weeks to play around with it, then we went live - that was it. We felt very confdent in the system, and the team we had to support us. They are honestly good people, and they also they know their stuff.
Over time we’ve been able to easily integrate many other pieces of equipment, so data results go straight into the system which is great. It’s been a big time-saver.
The system is really pretty straightforward. It just depends on how computer savvy the user is. From our perspective though, we were made to feel that there was never a stupid question. The team is nothing but helpful, which was so important during the staff transition.
We process anywhere from 500 samples a week – QLIMS has effectively freed up one and a half full-time staff members who we can now reallocate to more important jobs around the lab.
The system takes the samples out, and adds the results back in. The results are available instantaneously. We just check them against the machine printouts, then send our report. We process anywhere from 500 samples a week – so that’s another half-FTE that we can now reallocate to more important jobs around the lab.
I’m pleased it can do what we want it to do. While it sounds odd to say that there’s been nothing that surprised me, that’s because in reality, everything can be done. That’s the really great thing – it’s that flexible.
OnQ did a good job of adapting to the challenge. For both of us, the journey continues.
The biggest improvement we’ve noticed has been in productivity. We believe that QLIMS has contributed a time saving of 20% for our lab technicians.
We’ve also linked QLIMS to our ERP system via the cloud, allowing us to run Business Intelligence dashboards. This means people are able to slice the data as they need to make decisions in real time, - You can’t do that if the data is in a spreadsheet.
We do more testing than other honey companies but had never used the data to deliver a competitive advantage. We now can pull that data and it’s enabling us to do some very cool stuff.
The best thing about working with OnQ was their enthusiasm. They were keen to learn everything about us quickly, and we have really got to a point when they truly understand our business, which is amazing.
I can tell you that without QLIMS there’s no way we could cope with a thousand samples in a year. If somebody from another lab asked me, ‘Would you recommend QLIMS?’ I’d say, if it’s to try and replicate similar things to what we’ve done, absolutely, hand on heart, these guys will sort you out.
OnQ has always been incredibly responsive and helpful, so I felt they were tried and trusted.
We can now, at the click of a button, export all of the data into a report that can go to the clinician and patient. Not only are they incredibly accurate, but the reports also look great.
We told them the names of the data points and where they were in the file and they just automated the process of QLIMS extracting that information and depositing it in the patient or sample record in the relevant place.
